Tinted Windows Album in Stores Today

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Tinted Windows

The self-titled debut album from supergroup Tinted Windows is in stores today via S-Curve Records.

You can purchase the album at iTunes, Amazon or your local independent record store.

The best thing about Tinted Windows’ debut is that it could just as easily have been released in 1973 as now. Given the pitched yearning in Taylor Hanson’s voice, and the pure hummability of the melodies he sings, it may sound as fresh in 2023 as well. - New York Daily News

Their Beatlesque qualities extend to the way some of the best cuts are saved for Tinted Windows’ end stretch, like ”Nothing to Me,” a blissfully superficial-sounding plea for emotional honesty. It’s all hook-riddled, fast, and ephemeral, and if you don’t love it, your tie’s too wide. - Entertainment Weekly

And though the songs recall the Fountains’ smart, well-crafted material, they lack that band’s detailed lyrics (typical line: “All I really want to say/Is I need you every day”). But these likable tunes usually hit their modest marks — the terrific Big Star rip “Nothing to Me” is prime road-trip material. - Rolling Stone

Tinted Windows’ debut is even less left-field; these hook-crammed power-pop jams are safe and bouncy enough for Jo Bros fans and Stacy’s mom alike. - SPIN Magazine

Kings of Leon - Rolling Stone

Oklahoma musicians can be found all over the April 30 issue (Issue 1077) of Rolling Stone.

Cover boys Kings of Leon have roots in Oklahoma, having either been born or lived in Oklahoma at some point. Their story begins on page 40, recalling memories of riding in the back of their United Penecostal preacher father’s purple Oldsmobile on the way to religious revivals throughout the southwest. The band also talks about their family reunions in Talihina, Oklahoma.

A video on RollingStone.com takes you behind the scenes of the band members’ lives. Jared talks about his superstition of watching OU football games at a 45 degree angle to the left corner of his flatscreen television.

I take a shot everytime they score a touchdown, so this past season I got fucked up. They’re the highest scoring team in history.

Later in the video, Caleb shows off his ‘farmhouse’ and plays some Roger Miller records.

Also featured in the current issue of Rolling Stone:

There is a picture of Wanda Jackson from her recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction on page 20, as well as quotes from her induction speech.

The supergroup Tinted Windows (fronted by Taylor Hanson) gets a nice feature on page 25, where the band members tell how the group came to be. The band’s debut album also gets a favorable review on page 61.

Samantha Crain & the Midnight Shivers‘ debut album Songs in the Night also scores a favorable review on page 62.

After the jump, check out old pictures of Kings of Leon and read both album reviews.

Sneak Peek: Tinted Windows

Tinted Windows

As we mentioned last week, Taylor Hanson (Hanson), James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins), Bun E. Carlos (Cheap Trick) and Adam Schlesinger (Fountains Of Wayne) have formed a ’supergroup’ called Tinted Windows.

The band’s self-titled debut will come out on April 21 on S-Curve Records (Joss Stone, Fountains of Wayne, Tom Jones).

“We’re thrilled to be involved with Tinted Windows. The S-Curve team has been involved with the careers of most of the members of this extremely super group, and we’re honored that we’ll get to help bring their collective effort to the world,” says S-Curve founder Steve Greenberg. “They’ve made an amazing record together and I think the music audience will be blown away when they hear it.”

The band will play Bob’s (Cain’s Ballroom side stage) on March 18 before playing a couple shows at SXSW, Bamboozle and along the east coast. Tinted Windows will also play the “Late Show with David Letterman” on April 20.
