Black Swan is Moving to PortlandWe love you.
Any of you who know any of us will know that over the two years of our existence, there’s one topic that we talk about the most:
the Tulsa scene.
It is the fans who come out to show after show (even in the same week), when we have nothing to put in their hands and the bands who support each other, share and trade shows, verbally abuse each other during Halo and generally push each other to be better.
It is the venues and the record store that incubated us when we had no equipment, 4 songs and even fewer fans at the show — that invite us back even after we blow the speakers on their sound system.
It is the coffee shops and bars you can visit any night and see all these people and not even talk about music, but about everything else in the world in a real way. Its that we have journalists in our local papers who actually give a damn about GOOD music, who will both promote AND show up at a show.
So why move? Right?
That’s just it. We were not looking to leave Tulsa, at all. It is our home.
As some of you know, Sam is an sick* programmer by day (and sometimes by hobby). The company he works for (Vidoop, another Tulsa original) decided sometime in the early summer to move the whole company to Portland. So, naturally he started preparing to figure out his next step, whatever it might be. After coming to our shows, though, the president/co-founder (who some of you also know: Luke Sontag, an all around badass) offered this proposition: Sam stays at Vidoop, Vidoop helps to move the entire band.
The proposition was a punch to the gut. We now had a very serious and uninvited decision to make. We took the next few months deciding what to do, writing news songs (which some of you have heard now) and waiting to see if this was actually going to happen. Well, last week, when we were presented with a potential move date, the fork in the road became very, very real.
In the end it came down to this: We want to make music for you. We don’t want to roll over and die. We can’t split the band up. We’d would rather die in a fiery blaze of rehab and baby mama drama than fade away. We cannot deny this is an opportunity to help us continue doing what we want and need to do. So, we embrace it. We have no idea what to expect, but we know that we have to grab this and see where it takes us.
We are moving to Portland, Oregon on Sept 3rd. We will have a blow out party. We want everyone there. We hope to have our last show at the world famous Sound Pony. We hope you’ll come and take pictures with us and let us take pictures of you so we can have memories and you can have blackmail material.
We will have a couch in Portland and an open invitation to each and every one of you.
We absolutely love all of you and love the City of Tulsa. We would be nothing without you. And we appreciate you all so much.
Thank You So Much.

Yeah, it’s a bummer.
They’re playing with us the next night (Sat. Aug. 23rd) at The Red Room. So you’ll have 2 chances to see them in Norman.
