Carrie Underwood on American Idol Tonight

Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood will perform a duet with Randy Travis tonight on American Idol (FOX, 8pm CST).

Underwood covered Travis’ 1988 chart-topper “I Told You So” on her 2007 album Carnival Ride. In March 2008, Travis surprised Underwood on stage at the Grand Ole Opry, inviting her to become part of the country music institution. Two months later, fellow Oklahoman Garth Brooks inducted Underwood, making her the Opry’s youngest member at 26.

This will mark the debut of the duo’s duet of “I Told You So,” three months after Cincinnati WUBE-FM jock Jesse Tack created a mash-up of the two versions. In the last two months, more than 200 stations nationwide have played the mash-up.

The duet is part of “Grand Ole Opry Week” on American Idol. On last night’s performance show, four of the eleven songs sung were hits for Oklahomans - Underwood’s “Jesus Takes The Wheel” & “So Small” and Brooks’ “Ain’t Going Down (Until The Sun Comes Up)” and “To Make You Feel My Love” (Bob Dylan cover).

It was also announced last week that Underwood’s cover of Mötley Crüe’s “Home Sweet Home” would be the farewell song on this season of “Idol”.
