Oklahoma City Radio Shake-Up at KKNG, KOJK

Oklahoma City radio stations KKNG 93.3 (King Country) and KOJK 97.3 (Jack FM) went through a major shake-up this week. The changes are as follows:
The plug has been pulled on the automated Jack FM, ending it’s four year run. Apologies to all you Rick Springfield and Bryan Adams fans.
KKNG has shifted frequencies from the 100,000 watt 93.3 signal to the 1000 watt 97.3 signal. KKNG will also switch back to it’s original format of “Classic Country”, away from it’s recent move to play more contemporary country songs.
KKNG had laid off three on-air personalities: morning show hosts Bill Thomas and KC Sheperd and veteran afternoon host James Ayers.
A new format for the 93.3 signal will debut next week. There’s alot of speculation over what format the signal will go - alternative rock? soft rock? a fifth OKC classic rock station? more country?
Tyler Media registered 933TimFM.com and TimFM933.com last week via a subsidiary. “Tim-FM” would be a horrendous name for an Oklahoma City radio station.

I love the fact that KKNG is going back tock to Classic country but hate it that KC and Bill are gone. Bring them back!!! Classic couuntry was the reason I started listening to KKNG in the first place.
March 11th, 2010 at 12:20 pm
I will not listen to the morning drive show any more. It is boring without KC or Bill. Lynn is great but, needs their feed back. I don’t have a problem with only classic music. The afternoon (around 5:00) seems a little wierd with no one talking. This has been a bad move.
March 11th, 2010 at 2:55 pm
But, WHAT THE FUCK IS GONNA HAPPEN TO LEX AND TERRY!?!?!?!?!?
FUCK THIS BULLSHIT!! OKLAHOMA RADIO JUST GOT BI-CURIOUS!!!
March 11th, 2010 at 4:38 pm
I personally think this is the dumbest thing ever. Why would you get rid of the only half-way entertaining people ON the morning show? Lynn’s a nice guy, but can’t run a show by himself. He’s pretty much just a voice. I will not be listening, as if I could anyway..that new signal sucks. This is all so typical of ignorant people in charge of things.
March 11th, 2010 at 5:58 pm
The new signal is pitiful and the morning show is boring. I liked the way they were doing… a little classic, a little new and little in between. The country stations in OKC aren’t much to choose from.
March 11th, 2010 at 6:33 pm
KKNG did play classic. They played a good mix. I am done with KKNG. Hate the twister so I am switching to a duncan or ada station. Can’t get the stillwater station in norman unfortunately.
March 12th, 2010 at 10:00 pm
This was a bad move . . . I can’t list anymore. The single is too weak and has a lot of interference so I have to go to 96.3 or 101. whatever. Too bad . . . they were my favorite but can’t listen if it doesn’t come in clearly on the way to work.

[…] move follows last week’s Tyler Media shake-up of KKNG 93.3 (King Country) and KOJK 97.3 (Jack […]
March 15th, 2010 at 8:50 am
I will miss Bill and KC but Lynn does a wonderful job and I am all for “Classic Country”. I just wish I could get KKNG at work. The signal is just too weak.
Bring Bill and/or KC back if at all possible.
March 15th, 2010 at 6:36 pm
Well it figures … when absolute idiots are in charge things just go to CRAP!!! the first mistake was changing your format in the first place. In tulsa and Dallas they have REAL, OLD COUNTRY radio stations. this world is’nt just 12 year olds listning to the radio. Us big folks do too. if i was KC or BILL i’d tell ya to ” @#%^&* . theregood enough to work anywhere in okla city, and i’ll follow them where ever they end up….KING COUNTRY MY A…..
March 16th, 2010 at 8:08 am
KKNG offically sucks without KC and Bill!!!!!! I’m movin’ along to some other station. Bad move by owner(s). When something’s not broken, don’t fix it!!!!!!!!
March 16th, 2010 at 10:25 am
I loved the station and now that they have moved I can not listen anymore. I can’t pick it up at work. wrong move and will miss the morning crew. loved you KC AND bILL.
March 17th, 2010 at 1:34 pm
Wellllll……. I think the move stinks, KKNG (in it’s prior format) was perfect for me. A good mix of the old and the new. There was NO other station in OKC that I was even remotely interested in. The previous morning show was TOPS! Things like this usually occur over money…but money ain’t everything. If you’re profitable and enjoy what you are doing, why throw it away? Don’t know who I will listen to now….
March 17th, 2010 at 10:22 pm
Miss you Jack!!
March 18th, 2010 at 3:27 pm
I’m a baby boomer that has been a KKNG listener since way before KC came on the morning show. Really like Lynn who has been around OKC for at least 40 years….but I don’t like the move or JAKE. Never thought I’d miss radio jocks but not having any is strange. Guess its back to KXXY which I left when Dave left the morning show there.
March 18th, 2010 at 7:22 pm
A bean counter must have got hold of KKNG. It seems like a dumbass move one of them would make. Last April fools when Lynn, Bill and K.C. pulled the gag on everyone, they should have seen how much that morning show was loved. Ditto to all of those above that miss Bill and K.C. More K.C. than Bill.
March 18th, 2010 at 7:27 pm
We need another Jack Beasely. A real showman running KKNG.
March 22nd, 2010 at 8:32 pm
My twin boys and I listened to Bill, K.C. and Lynn every morning on the way to school. I loved listening to K.C. take on the big boys and come out ahead. I also loved listening in the afternoon on the way home and trying to figure out the answer.
The boys really loved Little Stewart. It became a ritual to try to guess the punch line of his jokes. They cannot understand where Little Stewart went. You broke 2 little boys hearts. I hope it was worth it.
I can’t get the station anymore anyway.
Management are just real winners all the way around. Great JOB!!!
March 22nd, 2010 at 9:39 pm
I used to be a channel surfer until about ten years ago when I discovered KKNG. I liked listening to Lynn and Bill in the morning, and was upset to hear about the addition of KC. But KKNG went from great to “more greater” instantly. I talked about KC and her stories so much, my wife got jealous. I got my family hooked on both the morning and afternoon shows and channel flipping was now history. But then the wheels of intelligence butted there fat head in. Not only did the two Tyler boys change frequencies, but fired the people that made them money. For a company that owns 5 TV stations and 6 radio staions, you would think there would be someone in the hallways saying… wait, let’s use our brains and think this through. Did daddy retire and the boys had to flex their muscles and show who was boss? Maybe it was to buy a bigger house. Did the wife need bigger boobs? To save even more money, why don’t you hire a bunch of meth addicts to take the place of the two Tyler boys. Now that WOULD be an improvement. What ever the reason, I’m gone!
March 23rd, 2010 at 2:04 am
I am so disappointed. I was on vacation and when I got back turned on the radio to KKNG and had something called Jake. I thought I had it on the wrong station, but it was on the right numbers. I am so upset that they just have made a shambles out of my radio listening. I will miss the morning show with Lynn, Bill and KC as I listened every morning while I was getting ready for work. I’m major ticked.
March 28th, 2010 at 2:39 pm
Forget all this “KC & Lynn Loves Jo-Jo” or whoever these losers are. I WANT JACK FM BACK!!! I loved the format, and I loved that they had NO morning show. They just played good music, and lots of it. I listen to a radio station to hear music, not a bunch of jack-offs waxing philosophic. GTFO Jake or KKNG or whatever you’re calling yourselves this week, and BRING BACK JACK!!!
March 28th, 2010 at 8:43 pm
My husband and I have been listening to the gospel
station for (can’t count the years), on Sunday and
loved it so much because they don’t sing ol’ songbook
songs in church anymore.. Made you remember church
when we were growing up…We sang along and could call
and ask for a song we had not heard in years..It made
us feel like we were in church…
On the Sunday it changed, what happened??
and the other station you could not understand,,,
What in the world were you thinking???????
March 30th, 2010 at 11:45 am
I have listened to the morning crew on KKNG for years! Never was there another radio station that played good music, both new and old. But not only did I listen to them for entertainment value exclusively, because they literally saved my life more than once with their up to the minute traffic reports. I work all over the state of Oklahoma and missed them when I was out of range ( which now with 97.3 is on the north side of OKC). There never was a time when I was listening that they didn’t put a smile on my face and make my day a bit brighter. I, too, was concerned when K.C. came on board, but she measured up and held her own and added a new ‘flavor’ to the conversations. Way to keep the guys in line K.C.! (Not an easy task at that!) It just got better and better…no complaints from my vehicle.
On March 8th, I buried my Daddy in southern Oklahoma. While I was home taking care of numerous things, I really missed my radio station that kept me smiling a bit more each day. I usually was tuning in by the time the gospel song of the day was played, and then either reached my destination just before their program was over, or was out of range (just catching it on the hilltops). So I really was looking forward to getting back into my ‘civilization’ and my usual routine. Needless to say, I was shocked and severely disappointed to be unable to hear anything I recognized (or enjoyed). To say that was the last straw would be so close to right…how could you do what you did? In this life we get so few moments of pure enjoyment out of something as trivial as our choice of radio stations. Not to mention that I had no idea what I was heading into on these interstate travesties we call roads that are always being repaired. Many a morning they had saved me not only worry about what lay ahead but time and money.
I guess all I’m trying to say is would it have hurt you to ask our opinions BEFORE doing something so thoughtless? We, as listeners felt that we were a part of the Lynn, Bill and K.C. program. Everyday we heard things that would influence our lives one way or another. They kept us a bit better informed about our world around us and seemed to be going through some of the same human maladies we all were. When you dropped them…YOU DROPPED US! How un-American and thoughtless!
This much I can promise you- I will not be listening to any of the stations that you are affliated with. I guess it’s time to get that satellite radio installed. I wish you luck because with your people skills, you are going to need it.

I have listned to KKNG for 10 Years. And have been listning to KC since she got outta School back in weatherford ON KWEY, back when it was 97.3.. Then On to the switch of 95.5. I Love her,, We get very few chances to follow out true dreams in this world, But KKNG was one of hers. To Get to work with ” What we thaught then Good Folks at Tyler” woud be a dream come true to sit at the Mic next to Lynn and Bill who were a great team.. She made the show even more interesting…. I live in SW Oklahoma, yes we have man great Radio station here, BUT ITs like your first car, that you never forget. KKNG was the FIRST real Classic Radio Sation That I came across.. So IT was a point from that day forward to listen any time I had the chance to hear great ppl Like Kevin Christopher, and such The news, and traffic reports were, and WILL be vital to OKLAHOMANS driving through the city as we all know how road construction zones are.. and the delays they bring.. WELL they are all gone NOW.. and thatnks to someone who really doesnt care about anythign besides there Pockets… I understand having to make money.. and haveing to survive,, I would not even want to try to compeat in Broadcast in the City.. .. Its way hard .. BUT to GUT OUT the one Radio Station that EVERYONE Lonved.. IS Foolish, and I DO hope that all THE GOOD (FORMER and LONG TIME) listneres to KKNG-93.3 will NOT listnet to this trash they are now broadcastig. FURTHER more. TELL all the Business that you go in to how Lousey the Change is, and how inconsiderate it is.. and DISCOURAGE THEM from supporting the ALL new JACK ASS 93.3 what ever it i… I can honestly say I was devestated as I drove in to Lawton Oklahoma, hit the preset for 93.3 and heard the Crap.. I called a friend of mne back in WW and asked him,, wt heck had happned. he said” the Competition is really beating TYLR up. So they FIRED Honest GOOD working AMERICANS, installed a computer,, and renamed the station.. they are going to try to start over.. again.. WOW like Dumping KEBC wasnt enough.. TO Trash KING Country GOOD ONE.. Oh I wonder if they Actually cocented the FCC this time to make the move.. YOU all Surely remember when DADD moved KTEN FM and several other stations around with OUT the Permission of the FCC. thats when things really started goign to HELL because THEN DADDY Ralph . was no longer able to have LEGAL control of any station .. LOOK That up.. and then think how Wonderful they are… NOPE.. ADD KKNG to the List.. of Oklahoma stations some BITCH has trashied…KKNG KOMA-AM KVOO-AM KEBC-FM KSIW-AM KSWO-AM.. any many more.. I do agree that maybe we should all Go to radio shack and spent 125$ for Satilite Radio.. Then we can all Subside with Aural Broadasting..togethere… Futhermore.. I do Hope KC will Return to the AIR. she is Wonderful, and has all my Respect…. Futhermore If you are West OF OKC Listne to 95.5 the last real Radio station in OK….
Hope I didnt offend any of the Good Country Loving Folks IN Ok

Can’t Get you well enough to keep listening you have moved on so have I to a station that I can pick up. Will miss You but will you miss me?
April 8th, 2010 at 6:56 pm
I am still in total disbelief that the decision was made to break up the BEST trio of all times, Lynn, Bill & KC! What in the world were you thinking?? Not only did I enjoy the perfect mix of country music, but I loved the chemistry of the “3 musketeers.” Lynn, Bill, and KC made KKNG a legend! It is difficult enough to get up and get ready for work, especially for a 62-year old elementary school teacher, but when my radio awakened me to KKNG and Lynn, Bill, and KC, I enjoyed every moment from the time I got out of bed until I arrived at school. In fact, sometimes I sat in the parking lot to listen just a few minutes more. I loved it all - the music, Nashville News, traffic reports and the different “characters”- especially “Little Stuart.” I would even tell some of his jokes to my 2nd graders. KKNG brought a smile to my face, and quite frankly, joy to each new day. I, like some other KKNG fans, will NOT listen to any of the stations you are affliated with. I would rather awaken to the annoying “beep, beep, beep” of the alarm clock and “nadda” as I prepare for my day. BRING LYNN, BILL AND KC BACK!!!
April 11th, 2010 at 12:33 am
I want Jack back!!!
April 12th, 2010 at 11:08 am
Why change something that is doing so well? Bring back the Trio….get more frequency so we can hear them and what are you thinking??? RETARDS???
April 18th, 2010 at 2:44 pm
You have really upset the many listeners of KKNG!! I feel very sorry for Bill and KC!! I wonder if they have found work since you dumped them! I like Lynn very much but, it is just not the same! Your frequency stinks!! I can not get it on my car radio at all! In my house, only one radio will pick it up. I have changed listening to KKNG and back listening to another station that is clear and plays very good music except for Sunday Gospel on KKNG with Lynn. At least, you haven’t screwed that up yet!! I hope you are satisfied and am enjoying all this criticism from many listeners or are you just brushing it off and saying oh well!
April 19th, 2010 at 7:46 pm
This change was a bad decision on the park of Tyler Media.
April 20th, 2010 at 7:54 pm
Jack Fm was a good station Tyler Media didn’t do any thing with the station i compered Jack fm OKC to other Jack fm stations Oklahoma City was the worst one i hope Jack Comes back and kick’s the crap out of Tyler Media just what we need another country station we already have of them already you would think if one country station sucked you wouldn’t keep the format so good luck Tyler here comes another round of whoop ass by Clear Channel and also Jack Is part Of clear Channel and their Rankings are doing good still
April 24th, 2010 at 11:43 pm
i will do my best to bring Jack Fm Back to the Oklahoma City Metro and it will not be owned and operated by Tyler Media Jack fm Oklahoma City was a satalight fed station i will will bring it back and it will be local owned i will play more of what ever and will have Howard Cogan as the voice like it used to be but it wont be like it was we will have more promotions more music and a Jack show we will be like Jack Fm In Dallas,L.A. Seattle,San Diego, Chicago, Nashville, Minneapolis and Kansas City
May 11th, 2010 at 9:45 am
WTF!!!!!just another painful morning show AND typically OK going country-classic or not! I WANT MY JACK BACK!!!
May 13th, 2010 at 2:24 pm
To Whom it may concern, Well this reminds me of a resturant lets say a pizza place that served a really great meal for a great price. But when they saw other resturants selling sub sandwiches they decided their own products we not what the customer wanted and therefore added sandwiches. Only in this case took the whole pizza away and served only sandwiches instead.
Trying to fix something that ain’t broke is futile and costly to the fixer.
In this same regard I don’t understand the logic of cutting out a very specialized and unique country radio show yes show with great hosts whom I dearly loved to hear with thousands of listeners only to capture a part of the new country market only. Those new country listeners are not coming over to you there presets are set and why lookup instruction on how to change it to the same type of music anyway.
All this being said I don’t own the company and in America we all have our own rights to make our own decisions in the way we run our business. I also realize that a company like this has to sell radio advertising to stay in business. But please believe me when I say the problem here lies in incomplete marketing research. Most of KKNG’s listeners would appeal to a huge clientel list as middle aged people still tend to purchase more than the minimum waged younger person. Not to put them down in any way.
So sorry you are gone KKNG. Well as for me that is. I can’t get the lessor powered signal out here. Oh did I mention there are hundreds of towns with 10 to 30 thousand listeners or potiential listeners in rural Oklahoma.
Well KKNG would not be the same without all hosts anyway.
Very bad decision on management part!!!
May 16th, 2010 at 9:42 pm
hey its JACK to listen to me go to www.jack.fm and click on the map and listen
May 16th, 2010 at 9:46 pm
hey Tyler MEDIA get an HD RADIO TOWER put JACK ON HD1 and put Country on HD2 and then everybody will be happy and if you want to compete with Clear Channel you get an HD RADIO for all of your radio stations
May 17th, 2010 at 8:44 pm
anybody notice that 94.7 The Brew is trying to be like Jack all of a sudden why not call it 94.7 Jack Fm it makes since or go back to The BUZZ we already have a lot of classic Rock stations or just go off the air forever
June 18th, 2010 at 11:41 pm
JACK you were my favorite station i miss it so much i get sick every time i pass the 97.3 KKNG slot on the radio i always say what a wast of radio space we could have Jack and Jake
