94.7 The Buzz Gets Old

94.7 The Buzz

During their nothing-but-Metallica weekend, 94.7 The Buzz teased a format change with sweepers like “What’s the Buzzzzzz? Find out Monday morning at 10″.

After sitting through Lex & Terry, they tipped their hat toward the rumors that KTOK was going to take over the 94.7 signal with a Glenn Beck soundbyte. (cringe) After taking a few swipes at the KATT, the first song we hear is AC/DC’s “Back in Black” (ugh), followed by Foo Fighters, The Ramones, Korn, Pantera, Atreyu and Tool.

So obviously, the station is switching from ‘Alternative’ to ‘Active Rock’ in order to take some market share away from the KATT. The fourth quarter of 2007 was very unkind to 94.7 FM (1.4), falling just above La Indomable 105.3 FM (1.3) in the ratings. Meanwhile, KATT (5.7) has been a consistent top five station in the ratings. So from a business sense, it’s a very smart move for KHBZ.

How will this affect Buzz Born & Bred and March Bandness?

Honestly I could care less about the Buzz’s change. They have, like just about all of our other stations, always been mediocre at best.

Lacey is not listed as a “jock” anymore on their website.

  4. Ryan Says:

They let Crystal go last month too. Jay’s the only “jock” and he’s also their promotional director.

Everything else is either syndicated or “jock-less”.

nice. maybe soon they can have a robot read the news.

when we had the huge ice storm, on my way home from the dinosaur jr. concert, I (foolishly) turned on the radio hoping for some news related to the storm. all I got was some douchebag who was 1000 miles away playing awful music and making stupid jokes.

media consolidation rules! where’s our pal, jdeep79, to comment on this?

The Lost Ogle’s take on the KHBZ format change: I’d like to thank the powers-at-be at the Buzz for making a completely idiotic decision and (instead of bringing Indie Rock back to Oklahoma City radio) deciding to compete with one……

Does anyone still listen to commercial radio anymore? Really? Support college rock stations!

  13. Drzima Says:

The thing the stations here in OK need to do is stop playing the same music day in and day out three times a day. Screw the music industry and give some radio play to all the bands. Stop letting big business run everything.

  14. Chris Says:

big business runs everything because they OWN everything. it only takes a few minutes to email your Senator and Representative and let them know that the softening of regulations at the FCC is having an EXTREMELY NEGATIVE effect on your community. As long as we keep electing people who put corporate interests ahead of COMMUNITY interests, we’ll only get more of the same or even worse. Let your elected representatives know that if they continue to put corporate interests ahead of their own community interests, that not only will they not get your vote, but that you will also campaign hard for their competitors campaigns.

The only reason we get all of this bullshit is because so many people are willing to TAKE all of this bullshit.

  15. Lacey Says:

Just so you guys know, I’m STILL at the Buzz. I STILL do Buzz Born and Bred and the local show STILL sounds the same. That’s all I can say about the format change. Listen 10-11 p.m.!

I WANT MY ALTERNATIVE ROCK BACK!!!!! CHANGING THE BUZZ TO the brew WAS THE WORST DECISION EVER! THANKS FOR NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. Michelle Says:

Bring Back the Buzz, we already have 2 other classic rock stations the Buzz was one of a kind, because the Katt plays some classic rock also!
    I want my alternative rock!!!!!!!!

  21. Andrea Says:

I listened to the buzz as my #1 radio station as did my husband and all of our friend. It was a great station and I preferred it over everything else because it was new rock instead of all that classic that the Katt has all the time. I was so disappointed the day I got in my car and heard the brew. It is absolutely terrible. Why couldn’t they just leave a great station alone. Now I have nothing I want to listen to here in the city. I guess it’ll be xm radio for me from now on.
